And finally, Jaime Oliver, you haven't tasted real poverty.  Cut out the tutting.  (And as soon as I can be sure I'm using it right, "tutting" is becoming a fixture in my vocabulary.)

We are trucking along.  Sweet Sarah rabbit passed away from a nasty fast bout of stasis in September, and it's been a sad fall without her.  She was tirelessly patient with my snuggles (even though she generally preferred to be left alone), and such a mellow, gentle girl.  Now it's just Freya, me, and all our boys.

The hubs and his little brother made great progress on building the giant garden over the past month or so.  There will still be some left to finish in the spring, but not much.  It looks as amazing as my wildest dreams, and I'm pretty excited to work in it next year.

We did grape juice last weekend and got 36 quarts, and didn't even do all the grapes we had.  It's beautiful, dark purple almost black, and very grapey.

We're also redoing the living room right now, and have (hopefully) less than a week of construction left.  Apparently we like to do home improvement projects in the fall.  I guess things are too busy in the summer and spring, and in winter I'm not willing to open up the house and make it anything less than as cozy as possible.

And that's what's going on with us.  Pictures to follow, eventually, someday.  Probably.

Things are nutscrazybusy at work right now, and I'm also buried in projects for the housegardenanimalsanctuary.  But I've got TWO dates with Grace and the hubs this weekend, so it's going to be a good couple days before next week sweeps me away.  Tonight we're all going to see Warhorse, and then Sunday we'll go up to River's Wish to do some clean up and also meet their newest resident, a sweet little steer.




This made me smile this morning - make sure to watch to the very end.

~ I meant to change the way I title posts at the New Year, then forgot. Dates are better, 'cause a lot of my titles were lame. This takes the pressure off.

~ I've made it halfway through today and run out of steam. I would blame it on my breakfast of cookies, but that would preclude a lunch of cookies, and that's what I'm having right now.

~ A large cookie crumb just rolled down the front of my overalls and into the keyboard. Now the spacebar keeps jamming. Damn.

~ At various points in the future, I see myself being in the market for: a career; some long-ish term travel; a new bicycle; a fireplace; a haircut; a grant for River's Wish; a bathroom re-do; a trip with G to the La Brea tar pits; a shower; more cookies.

~ The hubs made this for dinner at Step-dad's house a couple nights ago. It was good. (But he put half of it in the blender for a second at the end and then mixed it all up and it was a much better consistency than the original recipe.)

~ Several of the rabbits are in the middle of a big-ass shed-fest, which means that despite our best efforts to sweep and dustmop, oh, at least three times a day, walking through the living room still creates a swirling storm of bunny fuzz in your wake. It's tremendously frustrating, and I'm hoping dim lighting will disguise it when everyone comes over tomorrow for dinner.

Okay, I'm back. Our wireless is still out, for some undetermined reason, but the hubs found a cord that's roughly two million miles long so we can still use the laptop on the couch. I'm back in business!

Love listing

Our wireless isn't working for some reason, and it's way less fun to kill time online when I'm stuck back in the office, rather than on the couch in all the action.

But just for the sake of checking in, here's a little love list for you:

1. This weekend = Dad and other family in town for Bloomsday. Out dancing Friday. Then probably more dancing Sat., at brother-in-law's wedding.

2. I got a heat mat with a birthday gift card, and now my starts are popping up like gangbusters. The greenhouse is filling up with a few new baby plants every day!

3. The peas in the garden have sprouted.

4. Oo, and I've got a new project. The library in my neighborhood is sort of lame small, but I recently realized that it's teeniness may make it possible for me to eventually work my way through all of its books. Or at least the novels (and I'm skipping anything too macabre). (Our internet issue is helping me move through books very fast, since it also nixes any TV watching.)

5. The hubs got his summer schedule assigned this morning and it's waaaay better than his winter hours have been. We may actually be able to hang out together in the daylight at some point!

Aaaaand, I'm back

No good reason for the break, I just didn't feel like putting together posts for a while.

But now I do.

The biggest perk of taking a blog holiday is that I've now got tons of stuff saved up to share. I've been sewing, knitting, crocheting, reupholstering, teaching the rabbits how to shake, etc.

(Just kidding about the rabbit tricks. Unfortunately. How awesome would that be?)

Lily on a shelf, and an update

Not much news-wise around here, but I thought I'd pop in to say 'hi.'

Hi.

We've gutted the house top to bottom for the new year, bagging LOTS of stuff and packing it off to Goodwill. It's how we complete our household's consumerism circle of life, since everything comes from thrift shops to begin with.

I read the final Harry Potter book last weekend. And if "Twilight" made me feel like writing on a larger scale was an accessible, not-impossible thing to do, "Harry Potter" has had the opposite effect. JK Rowling knows her shit.

I've settled into the dream job right nice, though I'm still pinching myself every once in a while. And I'm learning that housing law is a tad more complicated than I'd counted on. Apparently there's a lot more to it than the landlord/tenant gimme-back-my-deposit questions I fielded as an intern.

Oh, and I've begun my first quilt. I think. The fabric I'm using is unusual and inconsistently textured, so it will be quite a lucky thing if it all turns out. But I'm having fun trying! Pictures soon, next time I'm home when it's light out.

So, I found a job...

And start tomorrow. I can never tell going into these things, but I'm 90% sure this is a great opportunity. More importantly, I'm 100% sure it's at least an opportunity of some kind, and it's the first one to come along in the almost-a-year I've been on and off hunting, so I am very grateful for it.

During my jobless months, I've acquired a skill that a year ago I didn't even know I lacked: the ability to keep busy. Without school or work, I can easily fill my days with TV and napping. It is more of a challenge for me to cobble together an actual real life when I don't have that one main activity around which to orbit hobbies and chores.

But in the last couple of months, I have really gotten it together. Instead of spending all day in my jammies zoning out to reruns of How I Met Your Mother, I've been getting up early for yoga, working a few hours a week at odd jobs, volunteering, gardening a ton, taking care of the bunnies, and spending time with G. I haven't lost my finely honed relax-and-do-nothing skills, but I can now compliment them with the ability to be productive even without structure.

But I'm still looking forward to having the structure back. And the money. The money does not hurt one bit.

More on the job later. And the rabbits. And the garden. And our next visit by a very cool guy.

But now I have to attend to the many loose ends I need to tie up before I report for duty tomorrow, the first day of my legal career!
