If only this party were real, it would be amazing.

Wait but Why is a really good blog.  This post is particularly interesting.

This dog enjoys playing in leaves.  Like, a lot.

Columbus was a tool, so why do we have a holiday named after him?

They can be a little bit slow, but The Civil Wars make great music.  Good as background music on cold nights.  I especially like this one.  (But their original stuff's good too.)

Kids having fun at their parents' expense.  Yes.

I'm glad Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake agree with my stance that hashtags are ridiculous.  We can still be friends.

Why have a baby when a dragon is so much more fun?

Note: Remember some of these ideas for posing with any celebrities you may someday encounter.

And finally, Jaime Oliver, you haven't tasted real poverty.  Cut out the tutting.  (And as soon as I can be sure I'm using it right, "tutting" is becoming a fixture in my vocabulary.)

We are trucking along.  Sweet Sarah rabbit passed away from a nasty fast bout of stasis in September, and it's been a sad fall without her.  She was tirelessly patient with my snuggles (even though she generally preferred to be left alone), and such a mellow, gentle girl.  Now it's just Freya, me, and all our boys.

The hubs and his little brother made great progress on building the giant garden over the past month or so.  There will still be some left to finish in the spring, but not much.  It looks as amazing as my wildest dreams, and I'm pretty excited to work in it next year.

We did grape juice last weekend and got 36 quarts, and didn't even do all the grapes we had.  It's beautiful, dark purple almost black, and very grapey.

We're also redoing the living room right now, and have (hopefully) less than a week of construction left.  Apparently we like to do home improvement projects in the fall.  I guess things are too busy in the summer and spring, and in winter I'm not willing to open up the house and make it anything less than as cozy as possible.

And that's what's going on with us.  Pictures to follow, eventually, someday.  Probably.

This article on a less-than-cool Reddit post and its aftermath is rather uplifting, I think.

Letters of Note

A letter from Harper Lee to Oprah Winfrey:

Letters of Note: Some things should happen on soft pages, not cold metal

And this entire website is just lovely.  I also really like the letter they posted yesterday, from Eudora Welty to The New Yorker.

Cute little blog

Have you seen Never Seconds?

Probably you have.  It's in the news all over, but I've been neglectful with my web surfing lately, so I just saw it for the first time tonight.

Anyway, it's by this little girl in Scotland who takes pictures of her school lunches and then blogs about it.  She's kind of a big deal now, and with all the attention her blog has gotten, her school's lunch offerings have improved mucho.

I mostly like it because she writes so cute, like this:

"I was so keen to eat I dashed out of my class leaving the camera behind."

PS~ Aunt Sue I got your note today - thank you times one hundred!

And your stationary is beautiful, like something I imagine the queen would use.

(That sounds like I'm making fun of you, but I'm not.  Really.  I want fancy note cards that make me feel like royalty too.)

Local food blog & book

In researching for my latest (and maybe last? Hopefully?!?) career plan, I just found Year of Plenty. It's got a religious bent that I'm not really on board with, but it's still cool to see something like this being written locally. I'm excited to get the book from the library and see if it's got any good local resources or tips.

I love my kitchen, but...

This stove might be the most gorgeous thing ever:

And if it isn't, then this is:

This one's from Design Milk

I'm not even in the market for a new one, these just caught my eye as I was out surfing. Before I owned a house, I never would have considered an appliance artistic, but now I can see their potential.

Nachos no on dis list

Okay, I'm back. Our wireless is still out, for some undetermined reason, but the hubs found a cord that's roughly two million miles long so we can still use the laptop on the couch. I'm back in business!

BUT, I'm still not to the point of having any new photos for posts. In the meantime, some funny things I've seen on Pinterest:

Very Pinteresting

I have found and LOVE pinterest. It's like we heart it, only there are links to tutorials and recipes and stuff, so it's actually even better.

I've sent off for an invitation and soon will have a pinboard of my own. If any of you join, let me know and we can link up! I kind of love stuff like this for inspiration.

Thursday night tidbits

First of all, this lady's paintings might be some of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. I need me some.

And second of all, I know that I know better than to try to sew my own clothes (they never, ever turn out), but if I were to have a lapse in judgment and give it another go, I'd try something like this beauty from 13 Bees (she always has the best stuff):

Thirdly, forget Gap Kids. If I ever have children, I'm dressing them all in clothes made from Oliver + S patterns. The jump rope dress is about the cutest thing ever:

And finally, a video I keep forgetting to post. Oprah recently had a contest where people sent in audition tapes, trying to win their own show on her network. I am totally crushing on this guy Zach who won his own travel show. Here's his audition tape:

A couple weeks ago, I caught his hilarious first episode, where he gave a tour of Hollywood. (Zack says, "Hollywood: where many stars live, and millions more are obscured by the smog.") Unfortunately, now I can't find that clip anywhere, but here's his Youtube page, with some other episodes and web clips.

G and bunnies iz so CUTE

G and I have an affinity for I Can Haz Cheezburgr.

(And who doesn't, really?)

A few summers ago, we found one we just loved. I can't track it down right now, but it was a kitten in someone's shirt pocket, and it read, "i are in your pocket, being tinyz," or something like that.

A little while later, G, hubs, and cousin and I went camping at Liberty Lake. The mosquitoes were
horrible, and we went for a "hike" that turned out to be us just walking out into the woods for five minutes, and then making a mad dash back to camp because we were all getting eaten alive. I got the worst of it, and I'm also the whiniest of the four of us, so we were all losers, in the end.

The bite I really remember was right in the middle of my forehead, and despite my valiant struggle not to scratch, it grew huge. Giant. And it looked like a zit. In the morning, I was despairing over it in something reflective, while hubs and cousin taunted me and my new appendage.

And G walked up, saw what was going on, and said simply,

"Don't worry. He are on your forehead, being tinyz."

And I fell even more in love with her, the clever girl.

So:

I just found Groupon

I'm generally suspicious of online "deal" sites, but I think I'm sold on Groupon. (That's the link to the Spokane site - there are other cities too.)

Today's local deal was a coupon for $8 worth of Slick Rock burritos for $4. I was introduced to Slick Rock last week and they're basically amazing. And since it's right around the corner from the Yoga Shala, I think I'm going to be a regular customer there!

If you wind up wanting to sign up on Groupon yourself, get to the site via this link and I'll get some bucks for it.

This woman knows me

Insert "boxed mac & cheeze" in the place of "nachos," and this post describes my life exactly as I would, only she's funnier and a has better vocabulary.

I've also never been so filled with emotion by the plight of a stick figure created in Paint.

My favorite sites

These change frequently, but right now this is my list of favorite, must-check-every-day websites (other than all the job-hunt-related ones, of course):

We Heart It is a gorgeous time-suck, and I have great fun trolling through the pretty photos and daydreaming.

Ms. Sayward at Bonsai Aphrodite has at least one tip worth trying each week. And she makes me wish I'd tried harder for a catchy-kitchsy blog name.

I enjoy reading the hilarious musings on Dooce, and seeing Ms. Heather's heartbreakingly beautiful photos of her kids. But this puts me in danger of coming down with a case of baby fever, so I always follow it with a shot of...

Shit My Kids Ruined. Fever cured.

Amusement

Are you acquainted with the genius of the Tom Selleck Waterfall Sandwich site?

Also, I reeeeeally like this clip of little kids reenacting The Hills. If the real show starred these children, I would watch it.

You're welcome.
